Last night...was a night.

Jun 21, 2012

When Ronnie and I finally got to bed around 11 pm last night, we thought we were all set for a good night's sleep.
Violet had a plan of her own though and woke up around 1 am, crying and grunting. Oh, the grunting. Even when she finally went back to sleep for a bit, she'd wake herself up with her own grunting. She did this in her early days of her acid reflux but she was smaller and much quieter back then. Now she could pretty much wake the neighbors with these grunts. (slight exaggeration.) I felt awful hearing her do this all night and knowing she probably didn't feel well. I'm guessing her reflux med needs to be adjusted and soon.

At some point during all of this chaos, MY reflux decided to act up. And let me tell you, taking care of a crying baby while having awful heartburn that radiates to your back is NOT FUN. I ended up getting sick to my stomach and that's where I thought I was gonna lose it. I might have even cried to Ronnie about how unfair it is that I never had acid reflux problems until after I had the baby. (yeah, woe is me.)

Finally, Violet graciously "allowed" us to sleep from about 5ish to 630ish after which she woke up in a great mood as if she had slept all night.. while her father and I? We just feel like we're going to die. No big deal.

And the whole point of this post? Not sure to be honest with you. But when I decided being a working mom was going to be easy, I should've waited until I was actually a working mom to make that call. It took all that I have after a night like last night to pull myself together this morning, look decent and show up for a job where I have to be on top of my game for 9 hours. Not saying being a SAHM is an easy job - no way!! - we just have our different challenges I think.

And the biggest challenge for me? Leaving this face behind every Monday-Friday. Sleep or no sleep, she's pretty damn cute.

Ronnie set her up in front of cartoons for a bit this morning to see if she would pay attention like she pays attention to videos on our phone and sure enough, she was hooked.

If she didn't get the "I love sleeping" genes from us, she sure as heck got the "I love TV with all my heart!" gene from her momma :)

P.S. Yes, this post is pretty much written by Debbie Downer. Please don't pick on me about how lucky I am to have a job, to have a baby, etc. I completely, 100% know how lucky I am. I just need some damn coffee!

Boy, Violet sure does look awake and refreshed despite not sleeping! I hope your reflux is feeling better. No acidic foods for you today, missy. :-)

love your last statement haha, those nights are NEVER fun. Sawyer is addicted to watching videos of himself on our cell phones too and now refers to all phones as "baby" because he assumes their are videos of him as a baby on every single phone haha

Awww poor baby- and poor Jessica!! I really think that would be awful. Kudos to you for getting the job done both at home AND at work- even on a tough day like this!

I am really intimidated to become a working mom, but I know that it will be worth it to provide for our little Nick that way- even on the hard days- just like you've said before.

I can only imagine that being a working mom is so hard because you don't have nearly as many hours in the day to do all the other stuff around the house you need to do, too! (Not that SAHM lie around all day, of course)

More importantly, where did you get that blanket she has?? It looks so soft and nice that I kinda want to get one for my nephew, haha. (I've been looking at blankets for him)

Sorry about your reflux, and lack of sleep. :( I can only imagine how hard it must be to have to go to work and be 100% after a sleepless night like that!
