Nails Files - the no name ELF

Sep 21, 2012

I have been so spoiled this birthday and I'm super grateful for all the thoughtfulness.

On Tuesday I got home to a pre-birthday gift in the mail sent by one of my bestest blog friends, Christina (go say hi!). This girl and I have so much in common and I know if we lived in the same area, would be at each other's houses all the time, going shopping, having play dates...Oh the fun we would have! I hate that we live so far apart!

The package included all kinds of ELF goodies: a nail file, nail buffer, nail polish remover pads, a cuticle pen and 2 polishes. She also included the prettiest necklace EVER. And you know how she knew I'd love it? She got the idea off of my Pinterest wish list! Such a good idea, right? You're so smart, friend :) Thank you again!!
So for today's Nail Files, I'm trying out one of the polishes she sent!

Funniest thing is that these ELF polishes don't have names! I'd seen them before and thought that was so weird! I however thought they were numbered at least. Come to find out, they all have the same number on them. Annoying, right? Oh well.

This one is a brownish taupe and actually looks much darker when painted on. I used two coats. I'm not sure it's a great look for my skin tone but I still really like it and it's matched well with my outfits the past couple days! Ignore my chipped middle finger nail ;)

Nail Files - Stiletto Red

Sep 14, 2012

Happy Friday!

It has been raining cats and dogs here all night and that makes me so happy!
Definitely a sign that our south Texas Fall is coming ....aaaand my birthday ;)

Today's the last day to sign up for me and Ashlee's Fall Swap!
Click below if you wanna get it on the nail polish + scarf action!!

Linking up with Tara and Vicki!

Rimmel - Stiletto Red
Y'all. I can't even handle it when I use this color. It is my all-time favorite red!

It's a creamy red which I'm all about! and I like that Rimmel has a wider brush than most polishes. The consistency is pretty nice too, not too thin, not too thick. So definitely thumbs up for this color and polish, I love it!

I own a ton of red polishes but am always wanting to try more! What's your favorite red?

Ok, dudettes. I'm off to get ready for work.
Have a Happy Friday and enjoy the hell outta your weekend ;)

Nails + A GIVEAWAY!!!

Aug 31, 2012

Happy Friday, y'all! I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about the upcoming 3 day weekend! We don't even have plans but the fact that I don't have to come to work on Monday is happiness enough for me ;)

This week's polish is from my new favorite brand!

Orchid - The Teal Thing
Please ignore my horrendous cuticles! As usual, this brand didn't dissapoint. It was so easy to apply and dried super quick. Love that! I also really like that the color doesn't change too much whether you're outside or inside. It has a teeny bit of shimmer if you're looking at it up close which you know I love!

So because I hate being a tease and showing off polish that's only available at our Texas grocery store HEB, I'm sharing the goodness and giving away FOUR ORCHID POLISHES to one lucky winner!!

You'll get a really pretty red, shimmery purple, teal and an irridescent hot pink! Then you can tell all your friends you're wearing special Texas nail polish ;)

Sugar and Spice and Nothing Nice // Wine-O // The Teal Thing (the same as I'm wearing!) // Summer Days (just like this one!)

The giveaway ends next Wednesday at midnight, winner to be announced Thursday morning!
(Because I'll have another exciting announcement next Friday!)

Good luck! :)
(Texas residents are allowed to enter ;)

Nail Files - Violet Vixen

Aug 24, 2012

I learned a new trick for painting my nails! PAINT THEM AT WORK. Because it's guaranteed that I will be forced to ruin them if I even try at home. Violet, that sweet child of mine, knows just the right moment to have a freak out, blow out, whatever. It's always right after I've painted my nails.

So now, the office balcony is my new place for some "me time" nail painting. And I'm pretty happy with how they turned out - not a nick or smudge in sight. *pats self on back*

I used a polish that I bought at Target a while back when I was on the hunt for a pretty pink/purple color. I was so excited when I found it because it was exactly what I was looking for and seeing the name, it was obviously meant to be mine! ;)

L'Oreal Color Riche - Violet Vixen
Me and my nails, feeling pretty good about ourselves out on the balcony
Comparing the color outside to what it looks like inside my office. Darker inside but still pretty!
Have you tried the L'Oreal polishes? I've used this one a few times now and I'm surprised I haven't gone back for other colors because I really like it! While it's not my absolute favorite to apply (it's a little thicker than I like. That's what she said.), I would totally buy more of this brand.

Have a happy friday, y'all ... ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!!

Nail Files - Summer Days

Aug 17, 2012

So on Wednesday when I should've been shopping for formula for my child, I was selfish and made a pit stop at the nail polish :D That bright yellow HEB coupon for $1 off grabbed my attention and there was no turning back! I'd never even heard of Orchid nail polish either but now I'm hooked. They have so many pretty shades and seriously, $4.97 a bottle? Done!

The one I bought:
Orchid - "Summer Days"
I really love the pinky/purpley irridescent look of this color and the name is adorable. ALL of Orchid's polishes have the cutest names! There's a lime green I want to go back for called "Ok, 1 More Margarita". Awesome huh? I highly recommend Orchid polish!

...In other news, my child seems to be on her second round of teething. !!! I'm already picturing my future 1 year old with a mouth full of teeth. ha. How is this happening so quickly?! I would've really loved to keep my baby with just her two bottom teeth for a little while longer, please!

But just in case you need some proof of the teething, not only is she now obsessed with chewing on Sophie the Giraffe, she can't stop licking at her gums. Which is why pictures for the next few weeks will be looking like this one:
Oh yes, she's adorable but fussy as hell...
Good thing we're dropping her butt off at her Maw Maw's for the weekend ;)

Happy Friday, y'all!

Nail Files Newbie

Aug 10, 2012

Happy Friday, friends!

I'm linking up with Tara and Vicki for the first time - what a special day ;)

I went old school and instead of using a glitter polish as the extreeeemely popular accent nail, I did all my nails in it! Reminds me of my high school days ;)

Sally Hansen Diamond Strength "Princess Cut"
from my recent polish swap partner, Amy!
It's not the most eye catching polish ever but I love it! It adds just the perfect amount of sparkle ;) And in the sunlight it's more pink and sparkley (damn my bathroom lighting!). I normally wear much more vivid colors so I'm sure you'll see more of those around here soon!

I have to say, I was really happy with this polish because it's not one of those annoying glitter ones that takes a hundred sloppy coats to look normal! This only took 2 coats and I'd describe it as a polish that happens to have some flakes of glitter in it rather than those chunky glitter polishes that are so effing hard to apply! Does that makes sense? Polish lovahs know what I mean! ;)
I finally tried this clean up pen too, also from my swap partner, and LOVE it! Just a little swipe on the sides of my nails and they're cleaned up quickly! The pen's a little thick so you have to be careful not to touch your actual nail but really it's so easy!

Question for you nail pros, how do I get my nails looking white again? I've had so many different shades on lately that they're looking a little yellow and I hate it! :( Thanks in advance!
