My mind is all over the place lately. And while I do have some fun things planned for around here (2 reviews and 2 giveaways coming soon!!), right now I'm extra focused on real life.
Like I mentioned before, Ronnie had to take Violet to the ER last week while I was out of town. He noticed that she'd been "off" for a day or so and even noticed her urine had a strong smell to it but got really concerned when she stopped smiling, not wanting to eat as much and then her temp shot up to 103.4. I have to say she's really lucky to have such an awesome dad who knows her so well and knew that something was up with her. I felt so helpless not being there but thankfully, his mom was able to go to the ER with them.
V had blood drawn and had a catheter put in so they could test her urine and Ronnie and his mom were basically traumatized seeing her go through that. More importantly, V was traumatized by it all - she screams now when laid down on the changing table and I'm sure it'll take her a while to forget about her time there.
The results showed she had a UTI which is actually really rare for a baby under 1 year old. They monitored her, she napped and her fever finally went down by the time she'd woken up (that's the picture I was texted below :). Finally after an awful few hours, they were discharged and sent home with antibiotics.
This week we followed up with the pediatrician who told us because UTI's are so rare in babies, she's worried V may have a urinary tract reflux problem. She explained it to us as her urinary tract might be floppy (for lack of a better word) which can cause the urine to reflux its way back up causing infection. I read up a little on this problem and it can cause kidney infections, kidney scarring and in bad cases, renal failure. Of course we're not jumping to conclusions here but we are going to have to take her in for further testing to see if it's just a random one time UTI (hopefully!) or if it's an actual problem that needs to be monitored.
Til then, she's feeling good and has no idea what's going on and for that, I am so thankful. She's occupied with giggling fits, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse watching, playing with her toys and having her annoying mom take pics of her in all the Halloween outfits her grandmas have given her :)
I'm not sure when we're taking her in for testing yet but that's something we'll set up today when she sees the pediatrician again. So if you don't mind, please keep her in your thoughts, we'd so appreciate it! And if any of y'all have any knowledge/advice on the issue, I'd love to hear it!

Awww, no ... poor V. I'm so sorry. I can only imagine how worried you and Ronnie must be.
Keeping gorgeous V in my thoughts and prayers. Def. keep us updated.
Poor sweet girl, I love those outfits though so precious! xo
Poor kiddo! We have thankfully not had any issues here. But my cousins daughter had a bad UTI awhile ago. Multiple antibiotics too, glad Violet got over it so quickly.
Also, you've been nominated! http://mcfallliving.blogspot.com/2012/10/award-1.html
Oh my goodness - that is so scary! I hope that she doesn't have the urinary tract reflux problem. I will be praying for her! She is just the cutest little thing.
OH, my poor sweetie.
She's the most beautiful, though.
The poor little petal.
My niece (who is now 13!!), went through the same all through infancy, toddler, young child. They were stumped, and even investigated my sister and her husband as they thought she might be interfered with :( Was a horrible, traumatic period for everyone involved.
When she was 5, it was finally discovered that one of her kidneys was dying, and the other kidney was only 1/2 the size that it should be. So they told my sister to prepare for the fact that she would more than likely need a kidney transplant at some stage, and because they didn't have private health cover - to keep $50,000 in an account because they would need to be in a position to pay for it so that she wasn't on a public waiting list....
Anyway, fast forward.... her kidney stopped dying, and remains small, and her other kidney is now a normal size. No explanation as to why, they think they may have had restricted bloodflow for whatever reason, and it has now corrected itself.
I hope you find the answers you need soon. As soon as people start mentioning major organs like kidneys, you get that sick feeling in your stomach...
Thoughts are with you xx
Poor baby V!!!! I will be praying that it is nothing long term and damn she's cute ;)
Poor Violet! Oh, that's awful. I'm thinking of you and your baby and hoping that it was just a weird, one-time thing! Good luck!!!!
That's so sad! Poor baby! I'm sorry! My cousin's baby had the same issue. They thought she was just colicky, but turns out she was in pain! They didn't catch it until 10 months. Luckily you did a little sooner. Hopefully everything is ok and it was just a onetime thing. I had reoccurring UTIs in my teens and early 20s (like at least 6 a year!) and had to have all kind of tests done, all the time, so I feel her pain. At least she won't remember any of it. I was on antibiotics for about seven years. When I got pregnant with Nolan, I stopped getting them (when most people start getting UTIs) and haven't had one since. So weird, huh? I'll be thinking about you guys!!
Aww poor Violet and Mommy!! I know how hard it is for mommy when your child isn't feeling 100%!!
Oh, poor sweetheart. :( I'm so sorry to hear about her whole ordeal. I'm glad she's feeling better, and hopefully it really was just a one-time fluke thing and she's as good as new now. I'll be sending all my good vibes her way!
I'm sorry girl :( I know it could NOT have been easy being so far away while all this happened. Ronnie definitely earned his daddy award for the year! I'll being thinking and praying that it was just a one time thing. So glad V is her happy, smiley self again :)
Oh poor baby! I'll be praying for her. As moms, I know we'd always trade places with them so they'd never have to hurt. :)
All my love to your family and Violet! xoxo
Gosh, I just want to take her and dance w/ her. What a beauty!
I'm so so so glad that V is better. That's great that the hubs knows V so well! Brownie points :)
Love the pix of her Halloween outfits. The picture where her eyes are just cloesd made me laugh.
Awww Violet! I'll certainly be thinking of her- and you guys. I imagine it's so hard to see your baby go through something like that, but I'm glad Ronnie is such a good dad and paid close attention! Go Ronnie :)
My niece has had some similar problems - weirdly I think it was the brand of diaper she was using because they switched and she has been fine.
Super cute photos! I hope she feels better!!
